Blackjack is a very interesting game where you can win some serious money. There are a lot of actions you can take depending on the cards you are getting and the game plan you are applying. You can either hit or stand with certain cards, but you can also double the bet or split your cards — when you are getting a pair — depending on the circumstances. There is one other option that are rarely used by Blackjack players: surrender. To surrender means you are giving up half the money you are betting and choose to stop playing the round.

Again, surrender is a rare option in Blackjack. Not all tables allow surrender, and even if they do they may allow either one of the two types of surrender in their rules. If the Blackjack table you are playing at allows early surrender, you can opt to quit playing when your are getting a hard hand right after the dealer finished checking the table for possible Blackjack. Late surrender — very rare in casinos and probably no longer used in the game of Blackjack– on the other hand, allows you to hit a card to see if the hand is improving. You are not allowed to surrender if you go bust though, so think carefully before making your move.

There are rare occasions when surrender can be a good option, but I personally advice you to either hit or stand in every round. You never know when the dealer may go bust, and your hard hand can turn into a winning one in a matter of seconds.

While avid Blackjack players know exactly how to behave at Blackjack tables, new players often make several common mistakes during their plays. You need to understand that there are certain etiquettes for playing Blackjack. These etiquettes extend beyond making the right gestures for certain actions or behaving nicely to other players and the dealer; you need to follow certain rules of conducts in order to have a good time playing Blackjack.

Certain gestures are indeed necessary when you are playing at a Blackjack table. Sending the right signal whenever you want to hit, stand, double, split, or even surrender will make the game flow smoother. It will also help the dealer determine what is it you ask and avoid mistakes. Understand these gestures before playing at a Blackjack table to avoid troubles.

You also need to be nice to other players and the dealer. You are there to have fun, and harassing those people around you will only create an unpleasant atmosphere. Be friendly and ask the dealer politely if you need another card or you want to double; your friendliness will be well appreciated.

Avoid having too much drink at the Blackjack table. If you want to drink and get drunk, go to the bar instead. You are increasing the chance of accidentally acting rude to other people when you are under influence. You will also risk losing money at the table because your abilities to make good calls are decreased substantially by the alcohol. Have a glass or two, but avoid ordering for more.

The good thing about Blackjack is its simplicity; you are playing against the dealer — just one party — and it is very easy to focus on situations and winning factors and be that much profitable. A lot of gamblers I know love to play at Blackjack tables because they can assess the situation quickly and come up with a set of actions that much faster. Blackjack strategies are also very easy to understand; you don’t really know how to count cards to ensure a profitable session. The key lies in understanding your dealer’s moves.

In Blackjack, the dealer moves according to certain rules. These rules are generally the same in every casino and you will soon realize that playing Blackjack in different casino can be done using the same strategy. The dealer moves according to two controlling rules. The first one is to stand whenever their cards is totaling up at 17 or above. Dealer’s Aces are worth strictly 11, according to the second rule, although some casinos oblige dealers to hit on soft 17 and stand on soft 18.

With the two controlling rules in mind, you can easily formulate a winning strategy. Remember that you are playing against, and only against, the dealer at Blackjack table. You can make better decisions and move according the relative strength of your cards to win the game. Knowing that your dealer must play their hand through a specified way can aid you in assessing the relative strength of your hand and predict the possible move by the dealer according to the open card you see.

Choosing and approaching the Blackjack table is an essential part to winning this particular game. You will see different tables with different rules lined up in a casino, and choosing the right one can increase your odds of winning quite substantially. There are several aspects you need to consider when approaching a Blackjack table, and we are going to discuss them here.

First of all, you need to make sure you pass up Blackjack tables that utilize a continuous shuffling machine — the one where cards are returned to the shuffler after each round — because the odds of winning in such tables is really slim. If all the tables in the casino you are visiting use this kind of shuffling machine, move to another casino.

Pay attention to payout ratio as well. Most Blackjack tables will pay $3 for every $2 you win, and this is very acceptable. If you can find one, tables with $2 for every $1 bet payout ratio should be your choice.

Seating position is also very important. Always opt for tables where anchor seat is empty so you can be the last to take actions on every round. Being able to bet last will give you the opportunity to see other players’ actions and assess the situation accordingly. Although seating at anchor have no direct relation to you winning more hands, being able to gather information from other players’ moves can help you make better judgments for sure.

There are other aspects to consider when approaching a Blackjack table, such as how friendly the dealer is or the atmosphere of the table, but the aspects we discussed earlier should be enough to increase your odds greatly.

You are risking a certain amount of money whenever you gamble in the casino — or online from the comfort of your house — and knowing the risks involved is what makes you gamble responsibly. There are ways you can minimize the risks, such as by making calculated bets or spreading the bets over several opportunities, but the risks will still be there. The amount of money you win can cover for the losses, but in order to be profitable you should try to minimize your losses whenever possible.

In Blackjack, there is an option to minimize your risks to half the amount you are betting; this option is called insurance. Blackjack insurance is made available when the dealer’s open card is an Ace. If the dealer get Blackjack and you payed for the insurance, your losses will be cut to half of the amount you are betting. Insurance is considered to be a cost; the money you pay for insurance is kept by the house and the only advantage you can enjoy is when the dealer get a Blackjack.

Although Blackjack insurance is an opportunity to cut your losses, I personally advise you not to use them. The dealer rarely get Blackjack even if the open card is an Ace. Even if the dealer do get Blackjack, you will only lose money you are betting anyway. Paying for insurance will only add to your losses without noticeable benefits, so don’t opt for Blackjack insurance whenever offered and stick with your game plan.

Blackjack is a very entertaining game to play and it is very easy to understand. Once you are familiar with the rules and nature of the game, you will be able to play it using certain strategies, construct your own game plan, and of course be more profitable at Blackjack tables at the end of the day. A lot of new players jump right at counting cards just because they want to win; they are simply approaching the game from an incorrect point of view and the game will be a lot more complicated that it should real fast.

When you are learning Blackjack strategies, the best place to start is the hit/stand strategies. Facing different situations, you will be able to make good calls just by understanding the nature of this game and using hit/stand strategy for that particular situation. This way the game will stay simple and you can still have a great time playing Blackjack.

You don’t have to be a genius to master hit/stand strategies. The strategy do vary for different circumstances, but you can easily understand the general rule real quick. It is simply a guideline about whether or not you should hit. Some more complicated versions of hit/stand strategies also have double and split as part of the equation. The best way to learn hit/stand strategies is to practice. Use computer Blackjack games to practice these strategies instead of blindly memorizing them. Once you are confident enough, you can take the strategy to a live game and apply it against real dealer.
